Microoptical Fiber Switch for a Large Number of Interconnects: Optical Design Considerations and Experimental Realizations Using Microlens Arrays
نویسندگان
چکیده
The authors investigate a 1 free-space microoptical fiber switch for a large number of interconnects. The system to be studied is a reflective 4 optical system. Alignment tolerances and coupling efficiency are investigated and the benefit brought by collimating microlens arrays is reported (theoretically and experimentally). The use of microlenses enables power coupling efficiency between 3 and 2 dB (including losses due to the optical elements) for an optical switch allowing up to 3000 receiver fibers.

Design of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
متن کاملOptimization of Bistability in Nonlinear Chalcogenide Fiber Bragg Grating for All Optical Switch and Memory Applications
We solve the coupled mode equations governing the chalcogenide nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) numerically, and obtain the bistability characteristics. The characteristics of the chalcogenide nonlinear FBGs such as: switching threshold intensity, bistability interval and on-off switching ratio are studied. The effects of FBG length and its third order nonlinear refractive index on FBG cha...

Production of microlens arrays using the resist reflow technique has been extensively reported1,2. Theses arrays have fill factors approaching 75% and in lensed systems the unlensed light introduces noise into the imaging system. N T Gordon, C L Jones and D Purdy3 reported a sophisticated techniques able to create full fill, however, this is expensive. Davies and McCormick4, using optical litho...
